PROJECT VERITAS VS. CNN, CH. 3 James O’Keefe released the third Project Veritas CNN video today. It reprises a few highlights of the first two editions, and shows excerpts from an undercover conversation with a CNN producer who says that pretty much everyone at CNN hates President Trump, and American voters are “stupid as sh*t.” (I have long been struck by how readily many journalists, who themselves are not mental giants, label the rest of us dumb.) There is more, which, while not particularly notable, does paint the picture of CNN as a political actor rather than a reputable news source. We will see how much more O’Keefe has in store, but I wonder whether CNN’s reputation can ever recover–not so much from Project Veritas’s expose as from the network’s own behavior during the Trump presidency. ~read more great commentary at Powerline CNN’s Latest Retraction Is Just The Tip Of The Fake News Iceberg
Taking responsibility for just one of the many flawed stories CNN has been pushing is nowhere near sufficient a response to the institutional problems plaguing the media outlet. By Mollie Hemingway JUNE 29, 2017 THE FEDERALIST CNN recently was forced to pull one of its Russia-Trump conspiracy stories that “did not meet CNN’s editorial standards.” The discredited story was based on a single anonymous source who connected Anthony Scaramucci, a prominent ally of President Trump, to a Russian investment fund managed by a Kremlin-controlled bank. Thomas Frank, Eric Lichtblau, and Lex Harris, three of the highly awarded journalists responsible for it, resigned.
